Tech Tip - Basic Motorcycle Inspection
Whether your motorcycle has been stored or you've been riding on a regular basis, it is always a good idea to do a periodic inspection. This will ensure your bike is safe and reliable. Here are some tips to check out all the basic systems of your bike:
· Electrical - Lights, instruments, horn, make sure wires are not frayed or loose, check battery level & clean the terminals.
· Engine Fluids - Check levels of all fluids. If oil is dark, change the oil & filter.
Inspect Fuel Filter & Screens. Check coolant level as well as hoses.
· Brakes - Check all lines for wear and leakage. Check master cylinder for clean brake fluid & proper fluid levels
· Tires & Wheels - Inspect tires for even wear, tread depth and air pressure.
Inspect rims for dents or cracks. Check axle nuts & other hardware for tightness.
· Engine & Transmission - Check spark plugs and carburetors (if applicable). Inspect oil lines for leaks and wear. Inspect & clean air filter.
· Frame & Suspension - Check and tighten all nuts & bolts. Inspect forks for proper fluid levels. Inspect rear shock. Inspect handlebars or clip-ons for cracks or bends.
